2009 MATTHIASSON Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

This is a wine that we never planned to make. The dream of planting our own vineyard from scratch verged on nightmare as we struggled with the rockiest soil I’ve experienced in 15 years of vineyard consulting. The wine is 100 percent Chardonnay, and has the white peach, toasted almond or marshmallow, and ripe pear nose that is expected with Chardonnay, as well as plenty of weight, length, and richness. It is not showy, however—it’s opulence is aristocratic, not contrived. It has a distinct core of rock dust, or ground oyster shell, which is the distinguishing characteristic of the vineyard. 42 Cases produced.

2011 MATTHIASSON Napa Valley Rosé

The Rosé is delicate and crisp with a light salmon or pale peach color. It has a subtle nose of white pepper, blood orange, and grapefruit. It is quite fleshy in the mouth, despite the low alcohol and lots of mouthwatering acidity. There is sort of a beeswax character in the front of the palate, with a very dry and almost salty finish. It's begging for prosciutto and melon. 30 Cases produced.

2010 MATTHIASSON Napa Valley Flora

The wine is 100 precent Flora. Flora is an uncommon wine variety that is a cross between Semillon and Gewurtztraminer. This wine is copper colored, and redolent of toasted almonds, dried apricots, and candied orange peels. It’s just moderately sweet, and gains it’s rich full mouthfeel by the tannin from the skin fermentation and the natural acidity, as well as the oily botrytis character that lingers for ages. 75 Cases of half bottles produced.

2009 MATTHIASSON Napa Valley Refosco

The wine is 100 percent Refosco dal Penduncula Rosso, a variety typically grown in the Fruili region of Italy. The Refosco has a huge nose of almonds, tropical fruit, and smashed berries. The flavors continue with marzipan, berries, and a stony minerality that is incredibly distinctive. The tannins and concentration are very strong, but the moderate alcohol keep the palate lively and clean. 30 Cases produced.

2008 MATTHIASSON Napa Valley Ribolla Gialla

The wine is 100 percent Ribolla gialla - an extremely old white varietal cultivated since medieval times in the Collio region of Italy and Slovenia. This the ultimate food wine - can pair with fish, pork, veggies, whatever - the acid, tannin, and nuttiness help it cleanse the palate with almost any food. It is salmon in color, has moderate tannin, and lots of acidity, with a big crazy nose that is impossible to describe and an extremely nutty and spicy flavor, with the wet stone/seashell character that defines Ribolla gialla. 22 Cases produced.

2008 MATTHIASSON Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

The wine is 100 percent Chardonnay. It has a stony, orange-rind, almost metallic quality, with a base of creme brulee that is entirely from the fruit, and not from oak barrels. 12 Cases produced.
